About the Role:
As the Regulatory Licensing and Exam Manager, you will lead ACA’s Licensing and Examinations Program within the Legal Department, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel. This role combines deep legal analysis with hands-on regulatory compliance, overseeing licensing processes, managing regulatory exams, and ensuring adherence to evolving state and federal requirements.
You will also mentor junior Legal Analysts and help foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture, playing a critical role in ACA’s ongoing compliance efforts.
About the Team:
Our Legal Department provides guidance and support in a broad range of complex issues, including federal and state consumer protection laws, litigation, transactional matters, contracts, corporate governance, and many others.
What You’ll Do:
The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional with a strong drive to anticipate needs, solve problems, and lead with purpose. As our go to legal expert in this space, you will:
- Oversee the end-to-end regulatory licensing process—from applications and renewals to ongoing compliance reporting. Ensure compliance with surety bond and other licensing requirements.
- Manage and respond to examinations conducted by state and federal agencies.
- Track changes in federal and state laws and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and support junior legal analysts.
- Prepare well-structured legal documents, reports, and presentations to support compliance and inform leadership.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with business units, providing legal insight and fast-turnaround support.
- Maintain detailed legal records, policies, and procedures to ensure full audit-readiness.
What You Bring:
- 7+ years of demonstrated experience as a corporate Legal Analyst, Paralegal, or Legal Specialist.
- 5+ years managing regulatory licenses and examinations in a consumer financial services environment.
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Law, Legal Studies, or Compliance (advanced degree or paralegal certification a plus).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint & Excel power users preferred), legal databases, and compliance software.
- Deep understanding of financial services laws and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NMLS, state/federal licensing portals).
- Strong legal research, analytical thinking, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication, mentorship, and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly motivated, meticulous professional who thrives in fast-paced environments with a strong sense of professionalism.
Position Details:
- Full-time position: Fully onsite in Spartanburg, SC.
- Must be able to commute to the office five days a week.
- Relocation: Open to candidates willing to relocate. Position requires relocation to Spartanburg, SC by start date.
